SET THE COURSE

This position will work with the Director of Employee Relations to maintain compliance with employment and HR policies and procedures to ensure fair, equitable and consistent treatment for our people. The Employee Relations Specialist will be a strategic business partner with managers and employees in our corporate office as well as our Retail and Restaurant locations. This position will work closely with the Director of Employee Relations, SVP of Human Resources, and the management team in implementing strategic HR direction for these locations.

BE THE ISLAND GUIDE

  • Responsible for managing employee relations issues, including investigations, interviews and related policy application as assigned by the Director of Employee Relations and Corporate Operations. Conducts on average over 100 investigations a year for an employee population of over 3,000 employees in the US and Canada.
  • Facilitates employment law training/education. Also assists in selection of training materials to educate staff on a Harassment Free environment.
  • Provides coaching to managers and employees. Partners with Managers and Regional Management for Retail and Restaurant locations Nationwide with employee assistance for write ups and verbal coaching to team members.
  • Documents Performance Counseling for Retail/Restaurant/Wholesale locations. Responsible for maintaining an environment where the Tommy Bahama Culture and Values are embraced.
  • Responsible for maintaining HR Guides, policies, handbooks, and any other material related to conduct in the workplace. Assist with revisions of the employee handbook annually, which goes out to all Tommy Bahama employees.
  • Respond to issues regarding various policy and procedure related questions.
  • Participate in organizational training and development efforts and may conduct applicable training from time to time. Participate in Leadership and Development Training sessions for new store managers, is SME (subject matter expert) for Employee Relations.
  • Responsible for monitoring and coordinating State mandated Employee and Manager Sexual Harassment training compliance for retail and restaurant locations nationally.
  • Responsible for HR/Fraud hotline- follow up to calls and conduct investigations when needed. Responds to calls and claims within 10 days.
  • Oversee unemployment claims, appeals, subpoenas, and disputes.
  • Responsible for ensuring legal posters are current and up to date in all locations.
  • Maintain training files, as required by law.

ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Communications or related field or equivalent employee relations experience.
  • Generally, 3 to 5 years of HR generalist experience.
  • Multi-state experience preferred with preference given to candidates with experience California, NY, Hawaii, Washington, and Oregon.
  • Spanish Speaking is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated success in objectively coaching employees and managing complex, difficult, employee relationship issues.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and a very professional attitude.
  • Highly motivated, dependable, and able to work irregular hours as necessary (including weekends and evenings as needed)
  • An understanding of HR laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Requires outstanding communications skills and ability to work in a fast paced rapidly changing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding employment practices related to the day-to-day management of employees to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple employment investigations primarily over the phone and in partnership with onsite Team Members.

Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual’s experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.

Rate Range: $70,000.00 to $99,275.00 annually
