About the role:
The Payroll Manager is a critical role responsible for overseeing and managing the organization's weekly payroll operations for approximately 140 employees across two states. This position ensures the accurate and timely payment of wages across multiple compensation structures common in the residential services industry, including salaried, hourly, piece-rate technician compensation, and commission-based pay. The Manager is the internal payroll expert, administering payroll through Rippling, maintaining compliance with federal and state wage laws (including piece-rate overtime rules), and partnering with Finance and operational leadership to support compensation plan design and integrity.
What you'll do:
- Manage the full weekly payroll cycle, ensuring accurate processing for all compensation structures (hourly, salaried, piece-rate, commission).
- Administer and calculate complex technician piece-rate pay, sales commissions, and performance-based incentive programs (SPIFs, bonuses).
- Ensure strict compliance with all federal and state wage and hour regulations, including piece-rate overtime rules.
- Administer payroll deductions, coordinate benefit elections with HR, and assist with invoice reconciliation.
- Manage and maintain the payroll system (Rippling), identify process improvements, and support system integrations.
- Prepare required payroll reports, reconcile payroll accounts, and support month-end/year-end closing activities.
- Serve as the primary contact for all employee payroll inquiries, resolving discrepancies and clearly explaining compensation structures and deductions.
What we are looking for:
- Ability to work from the Dallas Corporate Headquarters Monday-Friday.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of payroll administration experience.
- Experience within the residential home services industry (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or similar field services) preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in calculating and administering piece-rate technician compensation and sales commissions/incentives.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state wage and hour regulations, including piece-rate overtime rules.
- Experience with payroll systems such as Rippling, ADP, Paylocity, or UKG.
- Exceptional analytical, reconciliation, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
