The Payroll Office, within Accounting and Fiscal Services, provides professional payroll services to UCI Campus and Medical Center for over 40,000 employees and two pay schedules, monthly and biweekly; ensures payroll is timely and accurate in accordance with UC Policy, Federal and State regulations; processes payroll production for UCI Campus; manages the UCI Campus time and attendance system; and provides relevant customer service to the UCI community.

Uses payroll professional concepts. Interprets organizational policies and procedures and advises departmental payroll and partner offices. Applies policy to resolve a variety of payroll issues. Works on complex payroll problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Audits payrolls to assure quality and accuracy of pay. Processes payroll related transactions in UCPath. Serves as a subject matter expert in UCPath payroll processes and in UCPath HCM system payroll module upstream and downstream functions. Provides tier two, third level complexity customer service.

• Interprets pay policies (for example, Retirement and FICA eligibility, vacation, leave of absence, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, et cetera) when reviewing questions from employees and/or department contacts. Provides background information to Sr. Payroll Analyst, Payroll Supervisor, and Payroll Director as requested for resolution of escalated cases and/or email requests. 15%
• Customer Service: Manage assigned case inquiries in UC Irvine EEC Service Now CRM system. Prepare/package and documents findings and solutions, present to UC Irvine Campus departments, UC Irvine partner offices, and UCPath Center. Resolves escalated cases requiring special handling with assistance from Sr. Payroll Analyst and/or Payroll Supervisor. 50%
• Compile reports for analysis, interpret data, and analyze results using statistical techniques. Audit On-cycle Payroll. Reconcile data from various sources. Metrics and reporting. Provides analysis of moderate payroll projects. 5%
• Transact UC payroll: Process exception or special handling, off-cycle, final pay, and overpayment transactions, obtain department approvals and monitor until completion. Review post-confirm data for payment/overpayment validation and coordinate employee and department communication as needed. Manges ongoing local and union dues payroll deductions as well as associated local vendor payments. Enters appropriate payroll transactions related to moving/relocation reimbursements and imputed income processing. 10%
• Business process development: Under the supervision of the Payroll Supervisor, drafts, reviews, and updates process documentation based on updated processes, guidance and/or policies received from UC Systemwide Payroll. 5%
• As needed, consults departmental payroll representatives on department level and central campus processes, develops and delivers presentations to key stakeholders (HR, Dept Leaders, etc.) on payroll actions and updates. 5%
• Applies professional concepts in analyzing and reviewing payroll activity to identify errors. Complete payroll forensics, perform root cause analyses, determine correction procedure, and coordinate with departments and partner offices. 10%
