Contract type: Hourly independent contractor
Time commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week on average, with variable hours across the recruitment cycle
Contract period: September 2026 through June 30, 2027, with possible limited summer follow-through
Compensation: $45–$65 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Location: Primarily remote; California residence preferred but not required

The Science Roots Impact Study is recruiting California schools and 8th-grade science teachers for a large-scale study of a middle school science curriculum. The project is led by San José State University in collaboration with Green Ninja and WestEd with funding by the U.S. Department of Education.
Following the first year of recruitment, the project is seeking an experienced and highly organized Recruitment Lead to manage Year 2 recruitment. The goal is to recruit 60 eligible schools, each with at least one participating eighth-grade science teacher, by June 30, 2027.

San Jose State University, WestEd, Green Ninja, and CSU Northridge are collaborating on a research initiative which aims to transform middle school science education and improve outcomes for students. This would take place over the course of five years which would involve a randomized controlled trial with 80 schools to evaluate the impact of the AI-enhanced Green Ninja curriculum on student achievement, engagement, and teacher efficacy. This project is funded by a $10 million grant from the US Department of Education’s Education Innovation and Research Program.
