Position Summary:
The HR Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Human Resources and Occupational Health in partnership with the VP of People & Culture, overseeing HR programs, services, and initiatives that support Craig Hospital’s mission, workforce strategy, employee experience, and organizational culture. This role ensures efficient, effective, and compliant delivery of HR services; provides leadership in employee and labor relations, compensation, talent acquisition, benefits, employee health and workers’ compensation programs; and oversees the administration of health, welfare, and retirement plans. The HR Director partners with leaders across the organization to drive process improvement, ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and healthcare regulatory requirements, and advance organizational and workforce objectives.
Position Requirements:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations: PHR/SPHR and/or CP/SCP strongly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources and/or equivalent experience and certification. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience: Eight (8) years' minimum progressive Human Resources management experience, including three years of experience in a leadership role partnering with senior leaders and overseeing HR programs. Experience in compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, workers’ compensation, occupational health, and workforce planning, with responsibility for aligning people strategies with business needs.
- Skills & Abilities: Strategic leadership and management skills, including organizational development, workforce planning, change management, and consultative partnership. Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and human resources best practices. Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization. Advanced critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, and employee relations skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Expertise in data analysis, workforce analytics, reporting, and the use of metrics to support business and talent decisions. Strong program oversight, process improvement, and operational excellence capabilities. Proficiency in HRIS systems, HR technology optimization, data integrity management, and advanced Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work effectively and independently while collaborating with diverse individuals, teams, and stakeholders. Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, flexibility, dependability, and customer service orientation. Experience utilizing HR systems and extracting, analyzing, and interpreting workforce data to support strategic initiatives. Bilingual Spanish language skills preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Human Resources function, including departmental planning, budget oversight, resource allocation, HR staff leadership, service delivery, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Oversee HR programs and practices across recruitment and talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, employee relations, employee education and development, employee engagement, and workforce planning to ensure programs are effective, compliant, clearly communicated, and aligned with organizational needs.
- Use HR data, workforce metrics, survey results, and organizational trends to identify opportunities, inform recommendations, and support decision-making related to recruitment, retention, engagement, compensation, workforce planning, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness.
- Direct the design, administration, and governance of employee health, welfare, leave, and retirement benefit programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, fiscal stewardship, competitive market positioning, and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of compensation programs, including market pricing, job evaluation, salary structures, incentive programs, and pay practices to support recruitment, retention, internal equity, and organizational sustainability.
- Partner with the VP of People and Culture to develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve HR strategies, programs, and practices that support organizational goals, workforce priorities, employee experience, and Craig Hospital’s culture.
- Partner with supervisors/manager, directors, and executives to provide strategic HR guidance on employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, organizational issues, and workforce needs; identifies trends and recommends appropriate actions.
- Lead job analysis, job evaluation, role design, position review, and related compensation recommendations in partnership with the VP of People and Culture.
- Direct internal and external reporting, survey, and workforce analytics processes and ensures information is presented in a clear, accurate, and useful manner for HR, operational, and executive decision-making.
- Provide oversight and strategic direction for the HRIS and related HR technology, including system effectiveness, data integrity, reporting capabilities, process improvement, security, and alignment with HR and organizational needs.
- Oversee the integrity, security, retention, confidentiality, reporting, and appropriate use of employee, former employee, and applicant data.
- Assure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and provide oversight for HR policies and practices that are equitable, consistent, clearly stated, and aligned with Craig Hospital’s values.
- Represent the hospital, or ensures appropriate representation, in official matters related to unemployment compensation, workers’ compensation, civil rights, labor relations, and other employment-related proceedings.
- Work closely with the VP of People and Culture and executive leaders on leadership development, succession planning, workforce planning, organizational culture, and related strategic initiatives.
- Strengthen the HR function through continuous improvement, effective use of technology and HR systems, process consistency, and a focus on high-quality, responsive service to employees and leaders.
- Keep informed of laws, regulations, HR best practices, and hospital developments that may affect HR programs, policies, and practices.
