About the role
The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing full-cycle, multi-state payroll and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. This role partners with Operations, HR, Benefits, and Finance to verify time, process payroll through Rippling, maintain compliance, reconcile payroll, and resolve employee payroll questions.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Manage full-cycle, multi-state payroll processing through Rippling.
- Receive and verify payroll information and approvals from Operations.
- Review time data for regular hours, overtime, double-time, PTO, sick time, and applicable wage-and-hour requirements.
- Import verified time and pay data into Rippling and review payroll reports before final submission.
- Audit payroll registers and reconcile payroll to the general ledger.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies quickly and accurately.
- Administer deductions, benefits contributions, garnishments, and other payroll changes.
- Ensure accurate payroll tax withholding and timely federal, state, and local filings.
- Process new hires, pay changes, and terminations while following state-specific requirements.
- Prepare certified payroll and prevailing wage documentation for applicable projects.
- Manage year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll questions and discrepancies.
- Support workers' compensation, 401(k), financial, and other payroll-related audits.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and provide reporting to Finance and leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and the Operations-to-Payroll workflow.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
- Previous Payroll Manager or Payroll Lead experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Rippling or a comparable payroll/HRIS system such as ADP, Paycom, or Paylocity.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing, FLSA, wage-and-hour requirements, and payroll compliance.
- Strong Excel skills for reconciliation, reporting, and data validation.
- Understanding of payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliation.
- Construction payroll experience, including certified payroll/prevailing wage, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, HR, or related field preferred.
- CPP/FPC certification is a plus.

Work Environment
This is primarily an office-based position with regular use of computers, payroll/HRIS systems, and communication tools. Minimal travel may be required to company offices or project locations.
